Purchase Experience Testimonials from Real Homebuyers

Newton, NC, on Nov 25, 2024

The process was fairly straight forward. I liked having the option to use the preferred loan company to get good rates.

Everyone has been very kind and great about responding to questions or concerns in a timely manner. Some replies even came in the evening, which was a pleasant surprise because I doubt they were still working at that hour. It was much less stressful than the buying process I went through on my old house 20 years ago.

I did not like the lack of communication during the process. I did not like being told the day before our original closing date that we no longer can purchase the home. Then having to find a different home to move into.

Easy process. Inspection setup was not ideal which lead to no inspection which I wasn’t thrilled about.

The website was never up to date. Our realtor never came to walkthroughs with us because it was a conflict of interest. The closing date took forever to get. The amount of money we needed to come up with and the date we needed it changed several times including our down payment and earnest money. The lending company couldn’t document anything properly, they misspelled our names in emails constantly sent incorrectly recorded numbers, refused to respond to emails because no news is good news then at the last second they had a ton of questions and documents that they missed or forgot about even though we had previously asked about them, they barely got our paperwork in time for closing and everyone we worked with either quit or got fired so we never got to have 1 reliable contact. Then the construction was just sub par, every time we drove by there was garbage from food all over the house along with we could look inside and see trails of ants going around to food left on the floor and on countertop for weeks at a time the trim doesn’t even come close to being flush with the floor anywhere they tried to caulk it but did a terrible job our wood floor is scratched the bathroom door was improperly framed in so it gets stuck the front door was improperly framed in so there is big air gaps none of the hinge mounted door stops were properly installed so I hade to finish setting all the hinges myself several walls are wavy or crooked and they mangled the trim in multiple locations, they left shims hanging out above the cabinets and our breaker box was labeled by someone who doesn’t know how to spell. [name removed] was great but the lender and construction was sub par with one week left before closing both the lender and contractor sent in a guy that quickly wrapped everything up was super nice and acted like a hero than told us that our review only reflected on them, to try to get us to give century complete a 10/10. I understand that I purchased the cheapest house in the entire state but when you spend 260k on something how hard would it be for people to have a little pride in their work. Don’t leave food garbage all over the house for weeks don’t leave old stale water in the bathtub so it stains it brown if you destroy a piece of trim replace it don’t fill it in with Sheetrock mud. Level you outlet and switch covers and don’t over torque the screws till they crack. Sometimes you can just tell when a worker does and doesn’t care.

[name removed] was the best part. He very obviously takes pride in his work, and makes sure things are done as well as communicates. Every promise he made, he kept, and was always super nice and honest through out the whole process. Regardless of what the rest of the process was like - I’m glad he was the one that was directly in charge of building the house itself.

My only dislike was the financing through the preferred lender. It wasn't even that bad of an experience, but there could have been more communication from the lender. In all honesty it was probably an average experience, and my expectations may be a little high with that. I'm the type of person that likes to always 'be in the know'. I don't like to wait for an answer, especially when deadlines are crunching. Century, on the other hand, always had an answer for me very quickly or at least I got a response that indicated an answer was soon to follow. So, thank you again for making our home buying experience special.

Homebuilder Customer Reviews

No one knows more about a homebuilder's quality and service than the builder's customers.

Since 1984, Eliant has been independently evaluating the performance of homebuilders across the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East:

  • We ask recent homebuyers to evaluate their builder's purchase process.
  • Then, we ask homeowners to evaluate their builder's quality and service (1) after the first 5-months in the home, and (2) again at the end of the first year.

In "Homebuilder Customer Reviews", we present the ratings and comments collected from new-home buyers at these three points in time.

Eliant verifies that only evaluations completed by actual customers are included in this "Homebuilder Customer Reviews" site. No other evaluations - whether collected by the builder or those appearing on other public sites - are included here. All customer comments are included verbatim, no editing is permitted.
