Homebuilder Customer Reviews

No one knows more about a homebuilder's quality and service than the builder's customers.

Since 1984, Eliant has been independently evaluating the performance of homebuilders across the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East:

  • We ask recent homebuyers to evaluate their builder's purchase process.
  • Then, we ask homeowners to evaluate their builder's quality and service (1) after the first 5-months in the home, and (2) again at the end of the first year.

In "Homebuilder Customer Reviews", we present the ratings and comments collected from new-home buyers at these three points in time.

Eliant verifies that only evaluations completed by actual customers are included in this "Homebuilder Customer Reviews" site. No other evaluations - whether collected by the builder or those appearing on other public sites - are included here. All customer comments are included verbatim, no editing is permitted.

Purchase Experience Testimonials from Real Homebuyers

The online buying process was challenging for me. I feel as if it took the personal experience away. I felt alone at times and not knowing who to contact about my concerns. When the title company called about closing anywhere I was SHOCKED!!!!! I was anticipating closing at an attorney’s office. I called my realtor and the underwriter thinking this could not be true. We chose to close at Starbucks with a mobile notary and it was just weird. No personal touch and no one to ask questions. We felt alone and should have had someone with us that we started the journey with. Did not like this process at all!!! On the other hand the house is Beautiful!!!!!

Sales agent was really good was the positive. Otherwise, the house was made with cheap quality materials and could not make any upgrades. House was under contract for about 1.5 months before it even started making it the last house in Phase 2 to get started with framing. The punch list from the pre move in walk through still not completed, but warranty department says it is in process.

First I would like to say that [name removed] has been the only bright spot in dealing with Century. He is trying to resolve issues that he inherited and he actually responds in a timely manner. Communication has been POOR throughout the entire process. After signing the contract, we were told we would receive updates on the progress of our home but only received 1 the first week. Nothing after that. It took me having to constantly text and ask questions to get any information. It took numerous follow-ups to get any questions answered. There was never any communication as to what exactly was being built/put into our house. There were inconsistent answers on finishes. The permit drawings for the house did not accurately reflect what they actually built. No one on the Century team could explain the reason. The typical response was "Hmmm, not sure why they show it that way." When issues were identified by me during the construction, I had to constantly follow up with the team to get a response let alone a resolution. I was told inaccurate information to try to satisfy my questions and only after pressing the issue was any attention paid. I identified structural issues with the concrete slab and construction early on and they were largely ignored. Now they are having to come back and try to repair something that should have been fixed correctly in the beginning. When walking through during construction with the SVP of Construction Operations, I was questioning some items not done correctly and his response was "We aren't the builder for everyone, so maybe I should just refund your money." I was both shocked and offended that he jumped to that comment 1 minute into meeting with him. The finish materials are builder grade at best. Not what I would expect in a $640k home. The attention to detail throughout the house is lacking. The water pressure is very low in the house. You cannot turn on a faucet while in the shower or the water stops coming out of the head. It's not the city pressure because I pulled the JEA hydrant pressures. The HVAC is still not functioning correctly. I put in a warranty claim after moving in and have yet to hear an update. My daughter hasn't slept in her room yet because there isn't enough airflow to get the temp below 78 degrees at night. We are on follow-up number three on this issue. The appliances provided are below the quality level that I would expect. The dishwasher is a plastic tub, which is cheaper than stainless steel and provides not benefit otherwise, not to mention it wasn't installed correctly. Keeping in line with the communication throughout, the communication regarding closing was poor. I had to reach out regarding closing, schedule, details, wire, etc. And then I had to follow up to actually get a response. I could continue to give examples, but based on how feedback has been ignored thus far I have probably wasted enough time. As a consumer, I would rate my overall experience with the team a 1. I would rate [name removed] a 10. That's why I gave my overall quality satisfaction a weighted 2.

The process for communicating our concerns was very cryptic. We made several comments about items missing in the home, issues, and concerns but given basically lip service where the individual didn’t actually know the status on our requests. I do not feel that we were valued as customers, only for our money. I understand that these are cookie cutter homes, but majority of the workmanship quality was sub-par at best. Again, when we brought these concerns to the table, I was told that they would be remedied. On closing we found out that little to none of our concerns were taken care of and I had to re-address issues time and time again. I feel that our house was built by the bottom of the barrel contractors, and the company is just trying to get us out of their hair as soon as possible.

The purchase experience with [name removed] and [name removed] was amazing, along with the GC [name removed]. The quality of the property/home lacks in some places but that is more about the build than the experience.

I disliked that there wasn’t any customizations for the home since the lot was already pre destined to have a certain style

The underwriting process was the part I did not like the most. It was very last minute disregarding the time that I had.

I liked how seamless it was. Communication was clear and expectations and concerns were addressed promptly. I would’ve liked to maybe have a congratulatory card or something when we closed but that may be a personal thing.

Everyone was super helpful. Especially important for out of state buyers not readily available to inspect progress. My sales agent,[name removed], kept me informed via texts and pictures of my home's progress. [name removed] in [name removed] and [name removed] in construction were able to work through any bumps in the scheduling process and I felt very comfortable with my out of state purchase.
